UNLEY OVAL Stage 1
The Unley Oval Redevelopment aims to establish the precinct as a regional sporting hub providing excellent facilities for sport and vibrant open space for the broader community.
The oval, on the fringe of Adelaide’s CPB, features two existing grandstands; one aged 40 years, and a 93-year-old heritage listed grandstand. The oval and its facilities are of high community value and is the home ground of the Sturt Football Club.
Following a significant master planning and consultation process, BELL was engaged to design and deliver Stage 1 grandstand upgrades to meet both broader community use, and the requirements of the AFL Preferred Facilities Guidelines for State League competitions, promoting growth of AFL, including women’s football.
The major Stage 1 upgrade works were completed in 2019 and prioritise pedestrian movement and equitable access and include upgrades to change areas including dedicated areas for women’s sports teams and umpires, warm up and warm down areas, gym, public viewing areas, game strategy, massage and medical rooms, administration offices, a community canteen and spectator standing zone.
To ensure the upgrade was integrated within the surrounding precinct, BELL participated in a high degree of stakeholder interaction with City of Unley, the Sturt Football Club, other Unley Oval sporting clubs, local residents and the broader community.
BELL continue to work with the community towards the development of an upper level function space within the younger grandstand.
