NIDO

Nido Early Learning Centre provides early learning environment and care for children aged 6 weeks to school age within a learning environment enriched with creative and sensory experiences.

In 2019, BELL was engaged to design Nido’s new Belair Early Learning Centre, refurbishing a 1890s Heritage listed building for administrative functions, and complementing it with a new school building.

Nido embraces the progressive educational approach of Reggio Emilia, and BELL collaborated with the client to design shared central places of learning (or ateliers) with seamless spatial connections throughout the school.

The Early Learning Centre’s neutral interior design palette internationally provides the backdrop for the colour and excitement created by Nido’s children.

Celebrating Reggio Emilia’s strong roots within nature, BELL worked closely with the project’s Landscape Architect to design well connected, challenging outdoor play spaces enriching sensory and creative play centred learning.

Architectural challenges were presented by the remediation of the existing building, requiring BELL to develop and manage relationships with numerous consultants including the planning consultant, building certifier, heritage consultant and Council’s planners.

The early identification of issues, and open and regular communication between all parties contributed to the successful delivery of the project, completed in 2020.
