A learning environment should do more than support training — it should invite focus, connection and retreat.
BELL was pleased to provide architecture and interior design services for the refurbishment of Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG)’s existing training facility at the Edinburgh Defence Precinct, north of Adelaide.
Designed as a learning Hub, the refreshed facility was named Wardli — meaning ‘Home’ in the Kaurna people’s language — following DSTG’s consultation with end users to identify a name that reflected the purpose and character of the space. The design is centred around a ground-floor pod structure within the existing building, visible from above via a mezzanine wraparound staircase.
The space brings together formal and informal presentation areas, open-plan work zones, hot desks, a library wall, quiet and relaxation spaces, and a welcoming entrance and transition zone. Drawing on a coastal biome theme, the interiors use bronze and blue tones to create a distinctive and cohesive environment.
Completed in early 2026, the project supports flexible learning, collaboration and retreat within a contemporary workplace setting.
