Darwalla

Darwalla is Queensland’s largest owned poultry producer, growing in excess of 25 million live chickens per year throughout Queensland and NSW.

In 2018, Darwalla developed the most technologically advanced hatchery in Australia on 11.6ha in Allora Queensland, replacing an ageing facility and future-proofing for expansion. The improved production efficiency allows Darwalla to process up to 800,000 chicks weekly.

BELL was engaged to provide architecture and interior design services to the process plant, where the challenges included the design of floor levels and joints and drainage services that would not impede the smooth movement of 600kg egg-loaded trolleys.

BELL’s design incorporated significant sustainability elements including the large-scale reuse and recycling of the plant’s wastewater.
